Eric Walter Seeger

  a Portrait

This Page shows a little background on the photographer and video-chronist Eric Walter Seeger. He was born and raised in Germany, and now he lives and works in Central Texas.
The following articles were published in a German Video Magazine:

Video from SlidesIt sounds crazy. How one can create a 20 minute video film from no more than 100 slides, even the large film companies could not say. Amateur filmer and video fan Eric Seeger from Frankfurt/Main can do it. "All you need is a large canvas, a high performance slide projector with two and a video camera with 3 brightness levels ", explains the photographer and decorator, "and of course the VCR with camera hookup". Everything else is actually quite simple. Since the photographed persons or articles on the canvas do not move, the video camera directed towards the projected picture does that. "I pick up to 5 adjustments with the zoom shot from the respective slide, move from one detail into the next or join short cuts together. For that the VCR should have an insert-cut however". The result is astonishing. Locomotives start moving, the photographed grill party becomes an unexpectedly lively video pleasure. Always supposed the slides are passable. Because if they aren't suitable even Walter Seeger can't do anything.

By trade Walter Seeger is from the professional photo studio area. The videographer presented here began one day - quite clear with the arising of the first affordable and bearable video cameras - to record actions, modifications and meetings in his closer environment. With that he is quite in the classic picture-journalistic tradition; only the selected methods are different. Contents also? Surely not - or perhaps they are. Anyhow, all of the video documentations created by him are drawn by chronist duties and artistic commitment at the same time. The videographer Seeger is always there with the camera when it comes to record installations, actions and event, whose special features are the volatile of the instant. For instance events of the group "Art in the Park ", photographic actions in various studios, appearances of theatre groups, music productions and similar more.

1995 E. W. Seeger moved to Waco, Texas. While visiting his uncle who lives there he had met a woman and got married after a few re-visits on both sides.
He started as advertising photographer for the Waco Tribune, shot the pictures for a brochure featuring the "Hico Gunfighters" and worked as car salesman to help support his wife. Unfortunately the marriage didn't last but a year and a half because the lady turned out to be a mentally ill individual who's goal it was to destroy his life. But despite the fact that she tried to get him deported he kept "hanging in there", trying to make a living by taking on various odd jobs. He started his business "Have Camera Will Travel" in 1998, specializing in location photography. His favorite task is to provide the photos for Trail Riding, which is a fun and relaxing outdoor activity for the entire family. In 1999 Eric included video - his real talent - in his service. Some samples of his photographic work are displayed on this website.
